Fish Extender Gift for an Alaskan Cruise

As you all know, we’re about to travel to Alaska aboard the beautiful Disney Wonder.  And if you’ve been reading my blog long, you will have guessed that we’re going to be participating–once again–in the fish extender gift exchange.  If so, you’d have have guessed correctly.  This go ’round, I came up with a gift themed specifically to our destination.  That is: hot chocolate mix-ins to jazz up a plain old mug of cocoa.

On deck nine of the Disney Wonder there is a beverage station.  One of the beverages available to each and every guest for 24/7 dispensing is hot chocolate.  Considering the cool climate to which we’re traveling, I assume that the vast majority of guests will visit the hot chocolate dispenser at least once or twice.  Hopefully, our tasty mix-ins will add precisely the right touch of fun and fancy to a each cup.

Here’s what we came up with:

We chose a variety of mix-ins for kids and adults alike (ahem, peppermint schnapps).  Here’s a close look at what’s in the bag.

It includes: mini marshmallows, Peppermint Schnapps, Nutella spread, cinnamon chips, butterscotch chips, tiny peanut butter cups (we found them at Trader Joe’s), white chocolate chips, chocolate dipped spoons (we made those) and a sugar/chocolate/coffee bean grinder we found at Trader Joe’s.

We also tucked a little note into each bag, letting the recipient know where to find the hot chocolate dispenser aboard the ship.

Cute, no?

  1. I want one! I’m not going to Alaska or on a cruise, but all of a sudden I want hot chocolate with yummy mix-ins.

  2. Super cute and I may have found something you and I do not have in common… I am no where near this creative.
    Have an amazing time!

  3. Incredible!! Next time that I need a fish extender, I’m enlisting you for help. Girl, you are CREATIVE.

Hope you are having a wonderful time aboard the Disney Wonder. You’ll be sharing Alaska adventures with us, right?!!

  4. Awesome! You are one terrific lady!

From your other post about summer fun – we have an icecream maker and have only really ever bought the pre-made icecream flavors…can you share your recipes for your homemade icecreams? TIA!

  5. I LOVE it! Not a coffee fan, I drink hot chocolate on a regular basis — even in the summer — and this is a fantabulous gift! I would use every single one of those in hot chocolate (albeit not all at the same time). So fun :)

  6. These are absolutely adorable! What a great idea – and it certainly makes my idea of my Jersey shore gift (AquaNet hairspray, tan in a bottle, too much eye liner, and salt water taffy) a lot less appealing. Time to retool…..

  7. I LOVE this! My only concern is it melting en route. Did you have any problems with that?

  8. These are great! Do you have an approximate cost per bag? Im thinking about doing this for our upcoming cruise to Alaska on the Wonder!

  9. Thanks for the awesome idea! We are going on this cruise in June- I’m struggling with our first time FE. we’re participating in the kids only and then families. Was this your family gift? Are we allowed to bring those tiny alcohol bottles on the cruise? I know I’d like this :)

  10. I wonder with the new alcohol rules, if you can still do the little bottles of alcohol in the extenders. Would they make it past the screeners??

    1. I don’t think so, Laura. I think that they’d ask you to leave these behind when you’re boarding the ship. It’s a bummer because these were excellent gifts before they changed the policy!

  11. So cute! We are going on theMerrytime Cruise in December. I think this will be a precious gift! Where can I find the cute “sign” you put on the front of the bag?
