Giveaway :: The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack

Last Friday night, Torri (who, for the record is nineteen) announced that she planned to watch a movie with a friend and then spend the night over at the friend’s house.  The movie feature for the evening?  The Little Mermaid.  I can just picture the two of them gathered around the TV, eating popcorn and singing along to “Kiss the Girl”.  I can only speak for myself here, but I for one find it incredibly charming that two college freshman young ladies chose a Disney classic for their movie night.  Cute, right?

LIttle-Mermaid

The Little Mermaid DVD has been a part of our collection for years.  Lately, though, I’ve been trying to build up our Blu-ray collection.  You can imagine my delight, then, when I heard that The Little Mermaid is finally being released from the Disney vault.  It will be available for the very first time on Diamond Edition Blu-ray on October 1, 2013.  And…I’m giving away a copy to celebrate!

One lucky winner will receive The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition 2-Disc Blu-ray+DVD combo pack with digital copy.  I’m running this giveaway old school blog style (those are the best kind, right?!).  Giveaway is open to US and Canadian residents ages 18 and over.  To enter: simply leave a thoughtful comment on this post telling me something–anything!–about the movie.  You can tell me who your favorite character is and why, or which song you love most.  If you’ve never seen the movie, tell me what color Ariel’s hair and shell top are.  Comments like “pick me!” or “I want to win” are ineligible.  Your comment must be received by midnight on Thursday, September 26th.  A winner will be chosen and announced on Friday, September 27th.   Good luck!

I received a copy of the movie to keep and one to give away in exchange for this post.

  1. Wow, I remember when my daughters were small and they had a Little Mermaid birthday party. They are now 27 and 28! I love that Eric is such a ‘Down to Earth’ prince, not stuffy.

  2. I can’t wait to share this movie with my nieces. Sebastian is my favorite character…the voice of reason!

  3. When we were kids, my older sister would watch this constantly! There was always a fight because I wanted to watch The Lion King and she wanted to watch The Little Mermaid. :)

  4. I haven’t seen it! My daughter hasn’t either yet she loves Ariel! Ariel’s hair is red and her top is purple. We’d love to see the movie together.

  5. I think my favorite part is when they are in the boat being serenaded … too cute. We had a VHS version that got messed up years ago and never replaced. Now with Grandchildren coming over, I would love a copy.

  6. I love the music. I love that my 6 year old and I sing them together everytime we watch it. Its a great story. Ariel really learns independence and stands by her beliefs.

  7. I love this movie. My son laughs so hard when Ariel brushes her hair with her fork at the table.

  8. I can pretty much remember the first time I saw (most) Disney movies. I’m the oldest of seven cousins and I took the baby girl cousin to see the movie. I was 19 and a freshman in college…she was almost five. She sat on my lap for the entire feature…until Ursula appeared and then she buried her face in my neck. Ursula is scary!
My baby girl cousin is 28 now and is a Mama, too.

  9. I loved the soundtrack! It was the perfect cassette tape for a couple of 10 year olds to make up dances to…. Every weekend!

  10. I’ve loved this movie ever since it came out when I was 12 (yikes!). I know every word to the songs and have even sung “Under the Sea” at karaoke in a terrible Jamaican accent.

  11. I love this movie. It brings back so many memories from when I was young and would watch it over and over. I think my favorite song is “Kiss the Girl” and my favorite character is Ursula.

  12. Since my 5 year old has not seen many movies (I think I might be able to count them on one hand) I would love to introduce him to The Little Mermaid. And we should start introducing him to more Disney characters if we ever want to take him to WDW one day.

  13. Ariel has always been my daughter’s favorite, and she’s now 26 with a daughter of her own, Sophia, who loves Ariel just as much. Now 5, she loves to sing and often serenades me on rides in the car with every word of “Part of Your World.” – what a wonderful way to keep living the memories!

  14. my oldest daughter too had a sleep over when she was 17 with her friend, and they had gotten all our Disney Princess movies out and watched a many as they could. I think it was such a sweet reminder to them of their childhood.

  15. I love all the older Disney movies. Their soundtracks are what made the movie! It seems like lately they aren’t trying as hard with the kids movie genre. They are a dime a dozen, and generally pretty forgettable. Love this movie, Lion King, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin!

  16. I used to have a friend who literally could recite / sing the whole movie..

  17. This move is amazing! This came out when I was a kid and oh man did I love Ariel.. I thought she was so pretty.

  18. Love the movie! I had the soundtrack memorized when it came out. Wore out my cassette tape :)

  19. “Oddly” enough…it’s the digglehopper and the snarflat that got my attention in the movie, “The Little Mermaid”. Ariel’s rebellious collection of human items was intriguing and I could feel her sense of desire to grow up and make her own decisions as I did when I was a teen. I wonder if our children will feel the same appreciation for Disney movies as we do as adults?

  20. I would love to win this movie for my daughter, she is a fellow red head who loves to sing morning until night. She has always love Ariel. Thank you for the chance to win !

  21. The Little Mermaid was my favorite disney movie (still is!) I haven’t seen it in years though. I remember me and my sisters brushing our hair with forks because Ariel did! LOL!

  22. Yep I’m one of those – can recite the whole movie – LOVE it (along with Beauty and the Beast!) Kiss the Girl and Part of your World are my favorites! I sing them all the time and have the soundtrack on my ipod :) hee hee…yes I have 2 girls, so that’s sort of a good excuse right? :)

  23. My favourite song is “Under The Sea” and character would have to be Sebastian. Thanks for the giveaway, would love to win this for my little cousins who haven’t had a chance to watch this movie yet

  24. My favourite part of the movie is during my favourite song “just kiss the girl” when the boat flips over :) I can’t wait to share this movie with my two little princesses :)

  25. I like Sebastian. He’s quite cute. Hoping to win this for my niece!

  26. “The Little Mermaid” came out when I was six and remember it being such a magical movie and my favorite of the “Disney Renaissance” era. I received the soundtrack (on cassette!) for my birthday the following year while out of town visiting family and begged to listen to it on the way home. We listened to that tape over and over for the ENTIRE 9-hour drive home. It must have driven my poor mother crazy and I’m sure she said a silent prayer of thanks when the tape finally snapped, but to this day she still laughs about that drive home! :)

  27. I have such great memories of this movie. I remember going to see it for my 11th birthday party and thinking it was such a magical movie, and it is still magical to me to this day! So glad they are re releasing it, it is about time! Thanks for the chance. :)

  28. Max behaves like every old english sheepdog I’ve ever met, great work from the Disney animators.

  29. Ariel is my favourite princess. i love the whole movie. i watch it even to this day.

  30. I loved watching this movie as a kid and now watching with my daughter who loves to sing the songs. When ever she is sick we have a princess movie marathon and of course the little mermaid is on the list.

  31. This was my favorite movie when I was a little girl, I really hope I win so I can share it with my little girl.

  32. This was my absolute favorite movie! :) I really love Ariel, she is my favorite princess!

  33. I would so love to win this!! It is the first Disney Movie I ever owned. I remember way back in 1990, when my then fiancee gave ti to me for my birthday! Back then it was a VHS copy, even sporting the original “recalled” design front. It went on to become our daughters favorite movie, who at 19 just told me I “HAD” to get her the anniversary edition for Christmas! Good luck everyone, but I really hope I can get this!! :)

  34. I watched the Little Mermaid so many times when I was a kid. Loved it.

  35. We were at Disneyland/DCA in March and my 3 and 5 year old boys thought The Little Mermaid was a great ride even though they’ve never seen the movie. I’m excited to watch it with them.

  36. I loved this movie as a kid, I watched it over 7 over again until the VHS tape wore out & didnt play anymore. I think i just dated myself, lol and I might have just turned into my dad telling stories about trying to watch roy rogers and weaking the rabbit ears on the tv, lol. I’m super excited that they are re releasing this movie! My daughter is 18months and a total girlie girl who loves minnie mouse and cinderella (i thinks its the music with cinderella) and it is my goal to enjoy the little mermaid with her and share how much I loved this movie. Here’s hoping she loves the movie just as much :)

  37. This used to be my favourite movie growing up! I used to know all the dialogue by heart.

  38. I love the supporting characters in this movie Flounder & Sebastian are the best!!!

  39. I like Under the Sea and we spent 90 mins waiting to ride the ride in Disney. I like Ariel simply because she is a ginger :)

  40. I just found your blog and love it…and I love Disney too. Ariel is my daughter’s favorite Princess and was definitely the movie I watched the most as a kid. Recently read a fin blog post on Meyers Brigg Personalities and what “theme song” each type has. I’m an ENFJ and “Part of Your World” is my theme song.

  41. This is my daughter’s favorite Disney movie. I love the song Part of Your World!
