Things I’m loving lately

It has been a really long time since I’ve written a loving lately post, hasn’t it?  I figured it was high time to share my thoughts on some favorites.  Here goes:

favorite-shirt1. I know, I know.  It’s just a shirt, right?  Sort of.  It is just a shirt but I happen to love the fit and flow of it and have made this part of my summer wardrobe in a major way.  It’s hard to tell from the photo but the sleeves are t-shirty material while the front of the shirt is rayon.  It looks super cute with jeans, shorts and capris.  I love it so much that I bought it in several different colors (I currently own the navy, black, red and jade green varieties).  It was a pretty good bargain at $19.99 when I bought it originally, but it’s currently on clearance online for only $13.98.

blendtec2. This Blendtec blender has changed our lives.  For reals.  I know that a lot of people swear by their Vitamix, and I’m sure that the Vitamix is an awesome product.  I’m here to tell you, though, that this baby excels at blending and will save you a pretty penny if you opt for it over the Vitamix.  We picked ours up at Costco awhile back and just recently crossed over our 200th use (that handy little screen keeps track for us).  The good news is that our Blendtec is still going strong.  We use it almost exclusively for smoothies.  The result is a perfectly-blended smoothie–no chunks of fruit that didn’t blend.  I highly recommend it.

3. This sausage and peppers recipe from Iowa Girl Eats.  If you’re looking for a quick and easy (though thoroughly delicious) dinner idea, you might want to add this one to your weekly menu.

bookofunknownamericans4. I’m currently reading The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez and really enjoying it.  Before this, I read Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline which was just okay for me.  I haven’t found The Book of Unknown Americans to be one of those can’t-put-down stories; I’m more curious than enthralled.  It follows the lives of several immigrant families as they seek to gain footing in America and pave a way for a brighter future for their children.  It’s definitely a character-driven novel–my favorite kind.  If you’re looking for something different to read, this might be a good fit for you, too.

5. Who remembers Sunkist fruit gems?  Anybody?  In my hometown there used to be this gas station called The News Stand on the corner of Spring St.  They sold gas, yes, in addition to a huge selection of magazines and newspapers (which were a thing before the internet!).  There was a little canister by the cash register filled with Sunkist fruit gems sold individually for 5 cents.  I used to love them.  I recently rediscovered them sold in bulk at our local Sprouts market and I’ve definitely bought a package or two.

That’ll do it for this edition of things I’m loving lately.  How about you?  Do you have any favorites to share?

  1. I loved those fruit gems!!! SO GOOD. Such a cute top, too. I have a similar one from Mod Cloth that I am obsessed with! As for favorites- probably my favorite books I’ve read lately are The Good Luck of Right Now and The Rosie Project.

  2. This is a silly little thing, but I love it! The Corn Butterer from Pampered Chef is our new favorite product! We’re from Illinois farm country, so we’ve eaten a lot of corn this summer and this is such a time saver – you just put a stick of butter in it and smear it over your corn on the cob. We had tried spray butter, melted butter with a brush and just using a knife, but when you’re getting corn ready for the whole family, this is so fast!

    1. When it comes to life hacks, Leah, I don’t consider the most brilliant ones silly no matter how small they are! I have a few of those things myself (as well as their screw-in corn grips) and I agree with you. Pampered Chef makes some great kitchen tools.

I’m about on my 18th book by her. She is such an awesome author. She is a Christian based author and injects her Faith in every book, which I LURVE! I just can’t put them down. About 95% of my Nook is filled with nothing but her books. The best part…if you subscribe to her newletter, she usually puts her books on sale for .99…which is awesome!

    1. I’ve never heard of her, Marleen. I’m totally going to have to check that out. Thank you for the recommendation!

  4. 1. I’m tempted by that Merona shirt (such a good price and cute look!), but I have the worst luck with finding clothes at Target.

    2. I’m glad I read about those fruit gems AFTER my trip to Sprouts this morning. Otherwise, I would have picked up a package or two, for sure. ;)
