Teaching Kids Bible Lessons with a Buddy Box Subscription

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Lifetree, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #growkidsfaith  http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

My family has a unique way of doing church. We “attend” every Sunday morning in our pajamas from the comfort of our living room. It’s definitely not ideal; we’d rather be in fellowship with a real, live body of believers. Since we have a cross-country relocation right around the corner, though, we opted not to continue church shopping here in Arizona and decided instead to start seeking out a church in our new Alabama hometown. We quickly found one that streams the service live each week online and started watching that one. We actually really like the pastor and his messages and so we’ve been regular “attenders” since that very first week. As far as convenience goes, it can’t be beat but we definitely miss several aspects of physically attending church. One of the things I miss is having my kids attend Sunday School. I worry that they’re missing out on connections with other kids as well as age-appropriate messages that foster faith.  I recently discovered a clever and convenient tool that helps ease my mind on at least one of those concerns. Enter: Buddy Box subscription.

Building a child's faith through a monthly subscription box Buddy Box

Buddy Box is a monthly care package for kids’ faith. It arrives right at your doorstep, chock full of age-appropriate, fun surprises that convey a positive message and, ultimately, nurture a growing relationship with Jesus.

Our Buddy Box arrived in early October and–cleverly–featured a friendly mammal, Pat the Bat. The message of the month for the October edition speaks to overcoming fear by placing confidence in God and his constant presence in our lives. Here’s a look at what was included in our Buddy Box.

I’m not kidding when I say it arrived chock-full of surprises. It came with:

  • Buddy mini-magazine
  • Chattering teeth & “Yikes” mini-poster
  • String & talky tape
  • Clay
  • Pat the Bat treat bags
  • Spray Away Writers
  • Higher Flyer
  • Pillow Case
  • 2 Keepsake buddy cards with digital videos
  • Digital music download card
  • Sticky notes
  • Fear not stickers
  • 2 Reflector bracelets
  • Pat the Bat coloring sheets
  • Spooky Slime
  • And a hint for the next Buddy Box (the skinned chicken)

Moms will appreciate that everything arrives thoughtfully packaged and presented; unlike some toy packaging, this box is easy to open and the contents are organized. Another perk is that while parents can certainly engage with their child in the activities, the games, puzzles and toys are suitable for independent play as well. Jayce and I opened the box together and spent about fifteen minutes or so talking about some of the Bible heroes we’ve read about who’ve had reasons to be afraid (David, Daniel, Gideon) and how God has delivered them. After that, Jayce spent several hours playing with the contents of the Buddy Box on his own while I did some housework.

Rather than telling you what I think kids will like about the Buddy Box subscription, I asked my nine-year-old son a few questions so that you can hear firsthand what he thought.

What was your favorite part of the Buddy Box? I thought the slime was really cool.

Did you learn anything from the Buddy Box? Yes. Bats can eat 2,000 mosquitoes in one night.

What do you think the message of the Buddy Box was? We don’t have to be scared because God is with us.

Do you remember any Bible verses that were mentioned in your Buddy Box? Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. (Mom adds: Isiah 41:10).

Would you like to get another Buddy Box next month? Yeah! Can we?

A Buddy Box subscription is a great tool for teaching youth faith lessons and kids Bible stories. Best suited for kids ages 6-11, I found it to be a high-quality product and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
