Chocolate pistachio pudding stack

A couple of months ago I was perusing The Pinterest when I came across a dessert photo that immediately stopped me in my scrolling. Judging strictly by appearances, it had everything that is good in the world of sweets: a stand-up crust, layers of flavor and plenty of whipped cream. It was a recipe from Jo Cooks and it was called–my apologies to the bashful amongst us–“sex in a pan.” I clicked through to find … Continue reading Chocolate pistachio pudding stack

Oatmeal maple ice cream pies

Oatmeal maple ice cream pies

You remember those oatmeal cream pies your mom used to put in your lunch?  Yes!  Those ones.  Recently, I amped those up a bit by creating an ice cream version.  Soft and chewy oatmeal cookies come together with simple and sweet homemade maple ice cream to create the perfect summertime dessert.  We devoured them.  I think you will, too. Almost s’mores cupcakes

I’m a sucker for marshmallow anything.  Marshmallow malts, homemade marshmallows, chocolate covered marshmallows–I’m in.  And so when I found a recipe for marshmallow frosting, I had to try it for myself.  I decided to go s’mores themed, with the intent of baking a graham cracker cupcake, filled with chocolate creme and topped with the marshamallow frosting.  Only the graham cracker cupcake didn’t quite turn out the way I hoped.  Instead, I went with a vanilla … Continue reading Almost s’mores cupcakes

Chubby Son Ice Cream

Surely you’ve heard of Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream. This is similar, but better because it’s homemade. I dubbed it Chubby Son as a jab to Jayce, only it wasn’t very funny because he doesn’t get it. The name stuck, so I’m going with it. Here’s the scoop (pun totally intended): vanilla malt ice cream base dotted with chocolate-covered peanut butter-filled pretzels and peanut butter cups and a peanut butter cream ripple. You’re … Continue reading Chubby Son Ice Cream

Panforte Ice Cream

I’ve mentioned a time or two that we consider ourselves foodies.  As such, we typically figure out ways to handcraft foods traditionally bought at the grocery store.  Among the most decadent of our tasty treats?  Ice cream.  We have fun both trying recipes from cookbooks and mixing and matching to come up with our own creations–kind of like an organic Cold Stone.  This week, I made a recipe from David Lebovitz’s The Perfect Scoop.  The … Continue reading Panforte Ice Cream

Lemon Cranberry Bundt Cake

Every year I make Jeff a different treat for his birthday.  This year, it was a Bundt cake.  A lemon-cranberry Bundt cake to be precise.  And a very well received one at that.  This was one of the rare treats that pleased every palate in the house.  The cake itself is very fresh and tart, while the (sugared) cranberry filling adds the perfect sweet balance.  Once it’s topped with a drizzle of lemon icing, well, … Continue reading Lemon Cranberry Bundt Cake

Thanksgiving Royal Icing Cookies

I know that I’ve been kind of recipe centric ’round these parts lately.  I beg your pardon.  It’s just that this season brings out my inner foodie.  I intend to get back to some regular {non-recipe} blogging this week.  But not before I showcase the sugar cookies I made for Thanksgiving.  Like the Halloween ones I did, these were made with royal icing.  And because there were a few requests for that recipe, I’m sharing … Continue reading Thanksgiving Royal Icing Cookies
