Sweet tea ice cream with cinnamon sugar pie crust nibs & candied pecans

Sweet tea ice cream with cinnamon sugar pie crust nibs & candied pecans | Such the Spot

I had my heart set on making a different flavor ice cream each week of the summer and, for the most part, I did just that.  This particular flavor was something Jeff and I dreamed up. It’s inspired by the great state of Georgia–a place where each of us have lived, though not together. You start with a base of sweet tea ice cream.  I used these ginger peach tea bags from The Republic of … Continue reading Sweet tea ice cream with cinnamon sugar pie crust nibs & candied pecans

Oatmeal maple ice cream pies

Oatmeal maple ice cream pies

You remember those oatmeal cream pies your mom used to put in your lunch?  Yes!  Those ones.  Recently, I amped those up a bit by creating an ice cream version.  Soft and chewy oatmeal cookies come together with simple and sweet homemade maple ice cream to create the perfect summertime dessert.  We devoured them.  I think you will, too. Salted caramel ice cream with smashed oreos, praline bits & toasted pecans

Salted caramel ice cream with smashed oreos, praline bits & toasted pecans

A couple of months ago, I asked my Facebook community to chime in with inspiration for ice cream flavors.  Their responses equated to a virtual jackpot of deliciousness.  I’ll be trying several more of the suggestions over the next few months, but I absolutely had to push this one in particular to the tippy top of the list.  Jenny responded to my Facebook question, telling me that her local ice cream shop, Grand Ole Creamery, … Continue reading Salted caramel ice cream with smashed oreos, praline bits & toasted pecans

Chubby Son Ice Cream

Surely you’ve heard of Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream. This is similar, but better because it’s homemade. I dubbed it Chubby Son as a jab to Jayce, only it wasn’t very funny because he doesn’t get it. The name stuck, so I’m going with it. Here’s the scoop (pun totally intended): vanilla malt ice cream base dotted with chocolate-covered peanut butter-filled pretzels and peanut butter cups and a peanut butter cream ripple. You’re … Continue reading Chubby Son Ice Cream

Panforte Ice Cream

I’ve mentioned a time or two that we consider ourselves foodies.  As such, we typically figure out ways to handcraft foods traditionally bought at the grocery store.  Among the most decadent of our tasty treats?  Ice cream.  We have fun both trying recipes from cookbooks and mixing and matching to come up with our own creations–kind of like an organic Cold Stone.  This week, I made a recipe from David Lebovitz’s The Perfect Scoop.  The … Continue reading Panforte Ice Cream
