BEAUTIFUL AND ORGANIZED LAUNDRY ROOM MAKEOVER

Thank you, Cost Plus World Market, for sponsoring this post. All opinions and ideas presented are my own.

When we moved into this house two years ago, I almost simultaneously underwent a huge personal transition: I took a part-time job outside of the house. Having worked in and from the home for upwards of fifteen years, the transition was a significant one. While the opportunity gave me the chance to meet and work side-by-side with some really awesome people, the commitment took a toll on our family. It left me with far less time to concentrate on the things I’d always done at home. Meal planning suffered. Housekeeping suffered. Even the laundry suffered. Chores went undone and the simple ways I’ve always taken care of my family slipped by the wayside. The change might not have been outwardly apparent, but inwardly, the differences were quite noticeable. When things pile up figuratively, they often pile up literally, too. And that was exactly what happened in my laundry room at home. Today, I’m sharing a makeover. I’m really happy with my newly-transformed, beautiful and organized laundry room.

A couple of weeks ago, my laundry room was somewhat of a disaster. There were shoes and cleaning supplies and recyclables strewn all over the space. Things had gotten out of hand. The room was disorganized, dysfunctional and downright ugly.

One of the problems was that this room has two really ugly electrical panels on the largest wall. The permanence of them had me feeling really frustrated, and totally unmotivated. I couldn’t think of a pretty way to hide them. That was only part of the problem, though. The other part is that I didn’t have a great organizational system set up. I pretty much crammed all of my household supplies wherever they would fit. Everything else remained on the counter top, or overflowing in the cabinets.

In October, I left my job. It was a really tough decision for me because I’d grown to love my team at work. In the end, some personal struggles within my family served as an impetus for me to reprioritize. I left my job and now I’m freed up to focus on things at home. This laundry room makeover is a very tangible result of the shift in my focus.

Do you know where your local Cost Plus World Market is? It’s one of my favorite stores for home decor, gourmet food, and worldly wine.  That’s exactly where I headed as I set out on this project. I visit my local Cost Plus World Market Birmingham as often as I can and with each season, I find new products to swoon over. As soon as I saw this Gavin three tier cart, I knew it was coming home with me. I love that it lends to both a rustic and industrial look.

They have so many options for rolling storage carts, and I knew I wanted one for my laundry room. I stocked the cart with my laundry room essentials, including rags, my iron and my trusty clothespins.

I also used one of their super cute and versatile glass storage jars to keep my baking soda handy for when I wash my white linens.  I own several of Cost Plus World Market’s kitchen storage jars. They’re great for storing pantry items, too.

I also made use of Cost Plus World Market’s Madras baskets. They come in three different sizes, so they’re great for all different types of storage needs.

Do you use dryer balls? I love mine. Not only are they a natural alternative to chemical-laden dryer sheets, but they also look so cute, especially when they’re stored in this galvanized wire lantern. That same lantern also looks great when its used as a candle holder or a vase.

In my new laundry room, even the soap is cute. My heirloom variety soap bottle adds just the right decorative touch. I love the bee on the label so much!

Once I made my way through all the functional parts of my beautiful and organized laundry room makeover, I started adding some personal touches for style. Cost Plus World Market’s Barcelona vases are some of my favorite decorative pieces.

To cover the ugly electrical panels on the wall, my husband made me some wooden signs to fit and I painted them with a word I found quite fitting for this space.

I can’t be sure that the pictures convey it as accurately as it has come to be, but what I can tell you for certain is that in its newly-organized state, this room quite fittingly has become a tranquil and beautiful space. Much like the restored pace of my quiet life, this room offers space to do what needs to be done. I might be alone in this, but I find simple joy in tending to the needs of my family. This is one of the places in which I–quite happily–do just that.

  1. The difference is amazing. It’s like an entirely different room. Love the clever way you covered the electric boxes.

    1. Thank you, Samantha. I’m lucky to have a handy husband who can build things for me on my whim. I agree that the room looks completely transformed. That’s a good thing, in this case!

    1. Hi Laura! The dryer balls are wool and they’re neat because they reduce static cling in a natural way. You can even add a drop or two of essential oil to them if you like. I always get mine at TJ Maxx or Homegoods but I bet Amazon has them too.

  2. This is gorgeous! My husband and I were just at World Market yesterday looking for blog props. I saw that cart you have and loved it! Super cute!

    1. That is part of the Magnolia Home line from Joanna Gaines. I ordered it from Pier One. Thanks for stopping by, Artsistah.

  3. So this is absolutely random but I saw your laundry room on world market (adorable decorations btw!) and I love your flooring and paint color! Any idea where they’re from/what color?

    1. Thank you so much, Bethany! So sweet of you to say. The flooring is tile, by Vitromex. It’s called ‘Quebec Silver’. The paint is SW Collonade Gray. Hope that helps!
