Cara Cara Margaritas

I had intended to make margaritas of the blood orange variety. But then the kind grocer at the Sunflower Market informed me that I’d missed blood orange season by a smidge. Dagnabit. They were, however, still stocking cara cara oranges. So…I compromised.

We were looking for a specialty margarita just slightly outside the box of Jeff’s standard house margarita. These fit the bill. The orange juice turned our margaritas a lovely pink’ish color and added a sweetness that straight up lime juice could never accomplish.

3 oz. tequila (*tip* You don’t have to splurge on expensive tequila.  Any variety that says it’s made from 100% agave is perfect for margaritas).
2 oz. orange liqueur
2 oz. fresh-squeezed lime juice
4 oz. fresh-squeezed blood or cara cara orange juice
.5 oz – 1 oz. simple syrup
Orange slices for garnish

Mix tequila, orange liqueur, lime, and orange juices well.  Taste for sweetness and add simple syrup if desired.  Pour over  ice.

    Travis adds a shot of Captain Morgan to margaritas when making them at home. And I’ve always preferred them made with at least a splash of some kind of OJ.
