The Rock

If we’re Facebook friends, you may remember having seen this update I posted back in June.

The Rock

If you read the text, you’ll see that the first picture was taken just after the boys and I had finished walking prayer circles around the lot. When I say we walked prayer circles, I mean to say that we quite literally joined hands and walked round and round in circles around our lot, taking turns speaking aloud our prayers for that place. All three of us took turns asking that God basically come and do his thing on that ground. It was the first time we’d ever done such a thing together. It was a moving experience in part because I got to hear that all three of us had a slightly different focus for our prayers for that place. So, too, was it a powerful experience–at least we believed it to be. Several times I choked up as I walked and prayed because truly I believe our move to Huntsville is one that is in obedience to God’s call on our lives and that He was as present on that ground with us that day as He is on His throne every day.

The Rock

I don’t recall the specifics of exactly who prayed what. But I know we asked that God would anoint that ground and make it a place from which His kingdom would be glorified.

The RockWe asked that he would reveal His plan for our lives there–that He would bless them and make us fruitful.

The RockWe prayed for the laborers, that not only would they drive each nail with precision and place each tile with skill but that they would feel the presence of God as they did so and that if they weren’t already believers, that in some small way their labor on that house would bring them one step closer to freedom in Jesus.

The Rock

And then there was the matter of the rock. We asked that God would be the rock our home stood on–that he’d be the cornerstone upon which our lives there were built.

The RockWe got a call from the builder this morning. Apparently they’ve run into a problem. They were excavating in preparation of laying the foundation of the house when they–quite literally–hit rock bottom. It seems they had dug down and reached a rocky layer of earth that they couldn’t break through. As a solution, they brought in extra dirt to build up over the rock since the rock isn’t budging. It’s a firm foundation, if you will. Oddly enough, ours is the first lot in the neighborhood that they’ve had this “trouble” with. It will make for a slight delay in progress. Our builder noted several reasons that while it meant costlier measures for them, the rock was a good thing for us.

We didn’t need much convincing.

Indeed the rock isn’t budging. Already, He’s answering our prayers.
