Things I’m loving lately – January 2014

It’s been awhile since I posted one of these, hasn’t it?  I have several new things I’m loving and I can’t very well keep them all to myself, now can I?  That just wouldn’t be nice at all.

clarisonicClarisonic Aria – This little baby has been on my wish list for the longest time.  Finally, Santa came through for me and I’ve used it twice daily since.  I absolutely don’t know how I lived without it for so long.  My skin is noticeably smoother and it just feels thoroughly clean.  For now, I use it with the gel cleanser it came with, but once that runs out I can use it with any liquid cleanser or soap.  If you’ve had your eye on one of these and have been waiting for an endorsement, well, consider it endorsed.  The price tag makes this a splurge, but one well worth the money.

scandal

Scandal – Jeff and I are currently obsessed with this show.  And for good reason.  If you like smart TV, you’ll probably like this show.  If you love smart TV shows in which big things happen and the viewer is not left with more questions than answers when the show is over, you’ll LOVE this show.  We flew through the first two seasons on Netflix and have recently managed to catch up with season 3 (which returns from hiatus on Feb. 27th.).

baretrapsboot

Bare Traps Nangelic Wedge Boot – I needed a gray boot.  I really wanted to find an UGG version like Jo-Lynne’s, but apparently they don’t make those anymore, so I went with this cute style from DSW.  They are sold out of the gray, but they do have other colors available.  I love that this boot is lined with some sort of faux sherpa which keeps my feet toasty warm.  They’re also incredibly comfortable–wedge and all–even for all day wear.  These were a great purchase.

trufflesalt

Truffle salt – Jeff and I bought a tiny jar of truffle salt just like this one at one of the tasting rooms we visited in Sonoma.  Let me just tell you that it is the best little secret weapon in my spice cabinet.  Seriously.  It’s a finishing salt, so you don’t use it to cook but rather sprinkle it over your finished dishes.  We use it on buttered popcorn, egg dishes and slices of cheese.  It’s amazing how much flavor is packed into a tiny little sprinkle.  Amazon’s price is a steal, too!

juicer

Citrus juicer – We’ve had this for several months now, but I’m only now remembering to write about it.  I love it because it is super simple to use and clean up.  Come Saturday morning we can serve freshly-squeezed OJ in a matter of minutes.  It has also come in quite handy in producing lime juice when the resident bartender makes margaritas.

Chicken apple sausage pasta – If your weekday dinners have fallen into a rut, you might want to try this super quick and easy recipe.  It comes from Kristen at Iowagirleats.com.  I pinned it several months ago and have been making it consistently since then.  It’s fabulous for busy soccer nights because it comes together quickly and cleanup is a snap!  I always sub in a whole wheat pasta with delicious results.

Bonfire-heart

Bonfire Heart by James Blunt – My handsome husband is in charge of my playlist because anything outside of WordPress or Photoshop exceeds my technical limitations.  I recently asked him to add this song and I’ve been rocking out to it ever since.  As much as one can rock out while dancing around the kitchen with a wooden spoon in hand, that is.

zite

Zite – This is a great app for your iPhone or Android device.  You create a profile and select from a huge list of topics that interest you.  Zite then fills your feed with articles suited to your tastes.  You can use the thumbs up or thumbs down to help Zite better “learn” your tastes and proceed accordingly.

There you have my list.  Do you have any things you’re loving lately that you want to share?  I’d love to hear about them!

  1. Oh my. Scandal. I just discovered it as well and we binge watched like crazy over holiday break so to be ready for the new episode we thought would come this week. Sad discovery that it waits until after the Olympics!

    1. At least they were kind enough to tone down the very last episode. The two previous ones were jaw-droppers; I don’t know how I would have waited if they left it like that. I feel like the final episode answered enough questions to hold me over until it returns. Do you agree?

  2. Oh gosh so recently I started watching Scandal, too, and am all caught up! In the meantime, I started watching The Good Wife and oh my- love that one, too! I am able to watch it on Amazon Prime if you have that. And I think you’d like it because you see SO many characters from Scandal as well as many other shows. Honestly I didn’t think I’d like either of those shows, but they sucked me in! Super smart TV.

  3. I do. And when I saw the one particularly shocking episode (which I won’t detail so as not to ruin it for any of your readers who haven’t yet watched) – but That One – I literally sat open mouthed staring at the television…and was very thankful to be watching on Netflix! I’d have been very edgy watching that as it aired and waiting to see if he was ok.

I had completely blown this show off based solely on the name. I’m glad I gave it a shot!

  4. Oh, I can relate to this list of yours, Darcie! The Scandal is on my “must-watch” list of TV shows for a long time, but after your recommendation I’ll watch the first episodes tonight!
I’d add my favourite destination, which I really love! My fiance and I travelled in the past months, and we had a chance to visit the beautiful Lynn Canyon in Vancouver, Canada. As far as I know, you love travelling and we do, too. It was very adventurous and I think it’d be great for you and your family to visit this place. We didn’t want to leave! Nature, everything green, the woods, fresh air. Nothing like here in the city.

So, now, I’m going to prepare for my Scandal evening.:)
