Whatdya Mean, Baby Got Back?!

Buckle up kids…it’s time for another Finish This Sentence Friday.  This one came to mind yesterday as I was running errands in town and I saw SUV after SUV with graduate well wishes written across the windows.  Okay, so here’s your food for thought:

This time of year, it’s all about the Pomp and Circumstance.  But my high school years were best summed up in the lyrics of ____________________________.

I had to cheat and pick two.  Sara Evans’ Born to Fly has always hit home with me.  And John Mellencamp’s Jack ‘n Diane.  Before you go all judgemental on me I gotta say that the main reason I picked this one was for the stanza towards the end of the song that says,

“Hold on to 16 as long as you can
Changes comin round real soon
Make us women and men.”

If you’ve read my Who Am I page then you can see why I relate.

Of course nowadays, Rascall Flatts’ Bless the Broken Road says it all.

Okay, okay.  Enough about me.  What songs that tell the story of your life?

  1. Awesome.

I’m thinking Kelly Clarkson’s Breakaway and Alphaville’s Forever Young. To be honest, I’d have to throw in Bryan Adam’s Somebody or Straight From the Heart. Gotta think about that boy I dated for 3 years. And there’s a couple of Madonna songs that might apply..but not tellin’!

    Thanks for the memories!

  2. Darcie,

I got a commet from a “Darcie” saying they were coming through Albuquerque and wanted restaurant ideas.
The name wasn’t linkable so I didn’t know if it was you or someone else…if it was you check out my new
    post…I made recommendations…

  3. I really want to answer, but I’m so bad at remembering songs. I hear the name of a song and think I don’t know it until I hear it…..

    I know. It’s a gift.

  4. Hmm…I’ll go with Young and Innocent (not sure who it is by, but it was in St. Elmo’s Fire), These are Days by 10,000 Maniacs and These are the Days by Billy Joel. Gotta throw some Billy in there, you know.

  5. I really want to post on this…I just have no idea. This was like 20 years ago!!! Okay, 19, but who’s counting. I was such a naive fool back then. And I was dating my now husband… I don’t know, I just can’t think of anything that is quite right. There are a lot of songs that REMIND me of those times, but nothing that quite fits.

  6. I heard a country song once that said “good little girls make some mighty wild women.” That pretty much sums it up for me! I was the straight A college prep girl who never got into any trouble in high school. My life even now, wouldn’t seem wild to an outsider looking in, but when I think back to the life I imagined that I would have, it’s pretty wild to see where I am now!

  7. Ahhhhh Darcie, Like some others above me, I don’t remember music like that. There is at least one, though, that I will never forget. I just remember coming down the south side of the Cuesta Grade with Bohemian Rhapsody playing as loud as my tinny little speakers would play it. Remember trying to freak out other drivers as we passed them with my bouncy car? No shocks!
    I miss you.
